She started in the 90s as a journalist of the most mass media at that time (circulation: 250,000 copies) and popular in Kazakhstan newspaper "Karavan". At the beginning of two 00s she headed the editorial offices of "Informburo" news of "31"channel, then the TV company TAN.
For five years from 2008 to 2013, she headed the Central Asian television Internews project "Open Asia", from 1999 to 2002 collaborated with the programs of Russian service "Radius" of the BBC channel and New Day. Gulnara launched Kazakhstani online version of the Esquire Kazakhstan magazine and was the editor-in-chief.
The author and columnist of the Esquire magazine and Azattyq, the Kazakh edition of Radio “Svobodnaya Evropa”/ Radio “Svoboda”.
With the support of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan she wrote the book “Tolko ne govorite, eto slishkom”, which through real stories of heroes tells about the problems of education for children with disabilities.
She interviewed the President Nursultan Nazarbayev and an outstanding British scientist Stephen Hawking.
In different years she passed professional internships and training in the USA.
In 2013, Gulnara was recognized as the best blogger by Yvision the blog platform.
In 2016 Gulnara was recognized as the publicist of the year in the rating of the Vlast magazine.
